How to reach Bhivpuri waterfall from Karjat

Bhivpuri Road station and Karjat Junction are different rail stops. Central Railway’s published Main Line sequence puts Bhivpuri Road before Karjat when heading outward from Mumbai. If arriving from Karjat by local train, check that the chosen service calls at Bhivpuri Road; do not assume every fast or express train does.

For a road transfer, the September 30, 2026 Google Maps snapshot from Karjat Junction to Bhivpuri Road station, Diksal is about 8 km. View that road route. This does not measure the waterfall trail. A published local route guide uses Bhivpuri Road as the rail approach, but waterfall/base-village names vary across listings.

Confirm the specific cascade and trail entrance with a local guide before choosing a drop-off. Agree the return pickup and do not use a station distance as a promise of a short or safe waterfall walk. Follow closures, avoid floodwater and do not swim below a cascade during heavy rain.

Introduction & Overview

Bhivpuri Waterfall is a large, cascading natural waterfall located near the village of Bhivpuri, just one train stop before Karjat.

It is one of the most accessible and popular waterfall destinations in Maharashtra. During the rainy season, hundreds of families, students, and travelers visit to enjoy the fresh cool water, green scenery, and simple rural snacks.

History & Cultural Background

Bhivpuri is well known in modern history for its connection to clean energy. Nearby lies the historic Bhivpuri Hydroelectric Power Station, built in the early 1900s by the industrial pioneer Jamshedji Tata.

This plant was one of the earliest hydro projects in India to supply clean electricity to the growing city of Mumbai. The natural water channels and mountain streams from the Matheran hills feed both this power project and the scenic seasonal waterfalls around the valley.

When to Visit

  • • Peak Monsoon (Jul – Aug): The waterfall is at full power, enveloped by green fields, foggy air, and flowing streams.
  • • Late Monsoon (Sep): Flow becomes gentler, making it safer for relaxing in shallow rock pools.
  • • Oct – Jun: Dries up completely during non-monsoon months; not recommended.
