Introduction & Overview
Palasdari Dam is a peaceful water reservoir situated near the old Mumbai-Pune highway, just a short distance from Karjat. The name "Palasdari" comes from the Palas tree (Flame of the Forest), which blooms with bright orange flowers across the valley.
Surrounded by calm water, green hills, and quiet villages, this dam is an ideal weekend spot for families, couples, and travelers who want to relax in nature without doing difficult mountain hiking.
History & Cultural Background
Palasdari Dam was built during the British colonial era. Its original purpose was to supply clean water for the railway engines and maintenance workshops operating on the historic railway line climbing up the Bhor Ghat mountain pass.
Over the years, the area became well known for peace and spiritual reflection. A well-known ashram and temple dedicated to the revered spiritual saint Shri Swami Samarth was established near the lake, attracting visitors seeking quiet prayer and meditation.
